One of my hens has been sitting in my son's pushchair for six hours, doing nothing much in particular
All my girls use the pushchair as an unofficial nestbox, but she didn't actually DO anything! My first thought was "Uh-oh, eggbound", but she didn't appear to be straining. In fact, she spent most of the time asleep When I gave up on her ever actually doing anything and put her back in the henhouse, I found that there were fluffy feathers all over the pushchair.
Could she simply be going broody? |

Definitive proof this morning - I picked her up and thought she felt a bit warm underneath - she's completely bare
Bless her little claws - I'm verrrry tempted to get her a few eggs to brood. Nellie and Carrie are calling in with my new girls tomorrow - I wonder... |

Bless her, she's a natural She's now got three of her own (infertile) eggs under her, and she's clamped down tight
I've taken her off them twice to make sure she eats and drinks - she has a quick ten minute shufty round the garden, then scoots back to her post
She's still in the pushchair - I've sectioned off the coop so she can have a place of her own (she's having the nestbox, cos they never use it ) and I'll move her when it's dark.
Carrie's bringing me half a dozen fertile Barbu D'Uccle eggs tomorrow - how exciting |
