Second pic down, the pinky white one....but your monitor setup may give you a different colour to mine, the other two are barnevelders, with a spotty colouring (just for a change of course )

A friend of mine creates sex linked hens by crossing Buff Sussex with Light Sussex. Just wondering - are the offspring true buff sussex hens or hybrids?? And if you use these hens to breed further on - would you see the 'light' part in the chicks??!

Hi Mike (greentree),
I see it differently. The difference between a Light Sussex and a Buff Sussex is that the first is silver and the second is gold. This gene is sex linked which means that it is passed from father to daughter. So if a BS Cock is mated to a LS Hen then the mating is sex linked in that all the pullets are buffs and all the cockerels are lights. Now the lights are impure in that they carry one silver gene and one gold gene. But the buff hens only carry a gold gene inherited from their father. So they could be considered to be true breeding, pure Buff Sussex. |

| hen-gen sorry to sound cocky but from my experience when we did this we got as i said buff hens that bred buffs with white feathers in the wings but i do see were you are coming from in a genetic sense |

Not at all, tuzo. Practical experience is real. Sometimes in some situations theory is contradicted. Interested to hear of your experience. |
