I've currently got 3 smallish banties (Pekin, Croad Langshan, weird Dorking-cross thing) and one larger bantam (Marans).
I'm having 2 new birds from Nellie and Carrie at the weekend and I'm not sure about introducing them all to each other. The D'Uccles should be fine, as it's a year old, but the Pekin is only a baby and will be loads smaller than the others I should think.
Will it be safe in the coop with the others? What about feeding - currently the birds have organic layers pellets, but will these be lacking in the right nutrients for the baby (they're tiny pellets, so the size wouldn't be a problem)? I'm happy to get some growers pellets in for her, but can't think of a way to make her eat the right stuff!
Any thoughts? |

Hi Fenn
Nellie (the pekin I got from Nellie) was only 15 weeks when I got her & I put her straight in but seperate during the day (fence between them) with my two huge orps! After a couple of days I let them all out together and all was well .
At first I mixed a bit of layers mash with the pellets as she seemed to not recognise the pellets as food & gave her seperate dish from the others she soon got used to the pellets- I wouldn't worry too much about giving her layers tbh she will Like you say there is no way to tell chickiens - you must only eat this and not that !
Good Luck with them hon , you must be soooooooo excited ! |

ive had birds from nel nd carrie, wonderful hens they are too! lay everyday all 3 of them!
if the little one needs growers, mix it with the layers that way they get both. whenever im feeding different feeds to chickens and chicks i try it in different containers and they always manage to want the one they arent ment to have. to be honest i think your new ones will be fine after a few days.. try as heather said putting them in a run next to the others. i put my ones from nellie and carrie in as soon as i got them, 2 of the hens were from carrie's and one from nellie, so they didnt know each other and had a little arguement cept for that they all got on fine!
good luck with ur new ones, im sure they will all be fine!
