When the weather is warm and I eat lots of salad things, I make my own. Shop bought stuff is generally nasty and expensive.
You really need a 'mandolin' to do it properly.
For coleslaw I use 1/4 white cabbage, one medium onion, 2 large carrots, a stick of celery. Slice thinly with the mandolin into a bowl. Then using half salad cream and half mayo' about 2 table spoons of each, mix thoroughly and there you go. Cheap as chips.
To make it sweeter, grate an apple into it too, or add sultanas and a dash of curry powder for a really interesting taste.
Potato salad is even easier. You can make a huge bowlful for pennies. Peel spuds and slice into half inch thick slices.
Boil until cooked but still firm. mix in a bowl with half and half mayo' and salad cream. Add chopped chives or parsley to taste.
If I mention I've made potato salad and curry coleslaw, my son always comes on a visit and scoff loads of it. I really wish his partner would buy herself a mandolin Very Happy
