Hopefully it will be confirmed as H7 - but there is now a 10KM exclusion zone up around Dereham - according to the news.

I guess it's back to keeping the a close eye on the DEFRA things

Hopefully it's the H7 and not the other one, a bit worrying though. I've noticed there's been no news from France lately. That can only be a good thing.

I think the reason it's not the main news story of the day is that there's too much other stuff that they think is more salacious.

Defra just has a brief statment about testing for H7 and Hugh Pennington - a leading virologist seemed to think it could all be contained....

it's worrying. I'm only about 30 miles from it. Thank goodness I have most of mine under cover.

I'm not sure we should be so thankful if it is H7. It was an H7 virus that cost 30million birds and one vet in the 2003 Netherlands outbreak.

Won't do you any good at all if it gets near to you.

I read somewhere that the vet actually died of pneumonia. Probably brought on by the H7 though. Confused

AFAIK any H7 is bad news for chooks. But its not so bad (health wise) for people. Reading on Downsizer apparantly the vet that died in Holland had an underlying medical condition that made catching any sort of flu serious for him (you'd think he'd have sent a colleague, wouldn't you Confused )...

A BBC news report earlier said the birds due to be culled had been imported from France. And that there were not huge numbers of dead birds, but many had suffered lack of appetite and reduced egg numbers.

Fingers crossed its not one of the highly pathogenic ones...

According to the officials this morning on Farming Today, they are still running genetic sequencing and don't know which one it is, other than it is a H7 varient.
