Its going to be part of the long term plan to escape to the country (I realise it isn't going to happen while we've only got a small garden in Milton Keynes Confused )

You never know. About 8 years ago I got woken up by the police at about 2 in the morning with the question "is this your cow, sir?". Someone had freed a cow and goat, and tied them to the lamppost at the end of my drive.

I would have a couple of dexters.

I must confess, I did like them in the Royal Show last year - oh, and the Belted Galways. I even picked the winners...

And the parthernais, but they are for beef, apparently.

Mojo will know about these, as they are from Deux Sevres...

Parthenais - Old yellow/brown, black muzzled breed, dual purpose, originally triple purpose (working oxen) not particularly good yielding milkers (enough for a smallholder though) lots of cross breeding with Charolais - for more beefiness, rare breed, from the Pitou region.

I hasten to add before you swoon with the extremes of my knowledge that this all came from the wonderful book "Cattle - a handbook to the breeds of the world" by Valerie Porter (it's my bible!)

There's nothing by her on eBay but if you put the name on a search it'll notify you if anything comes up. Smile
