I have a dorking hen who has spurs about 1" long. It happens occasionally.
She'd never make a showbird. |

When we were without a cockerel for a while, one of the hens decided she would fit the bill. Her comb grew bigger & she even attempted crowing a few times! But she never grew spurs, so can't help there.
I have heard about it happening to old hens sometimes though. |

| My Hamburgh has spurs about an inch long, and lays every day like clockwork. It's the Araucana who "crows" when she thinks poor Little John is being particularly pathetic, so it's not a dominance thing. One of the spurs looks more like a fifth toe - I must have a proper look some time. |

| Perhaps we should have a competition for the hen with the longest spur ~ photos being obligatory of course! |
