Not everyone replies, if you view the members list alot of the members never post and just read. There could be any number of reasons why he/she didnt reply. Please wait for the facts before getting worked up. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you could find the artilce the posters above have already narrow down the search for you. |

Once again Ben the moderator is offensive. I was not getting worked up. I would happily look hard enough if I knew where to begin looking since the OP never gave so much as a hint as to which actual publication he read the article in. Sure there were a lot of other comments about a radio programme but since the OP clearly said he had read it, I think it fairly safe to assume that one doesn't 'read' a radio discussion does one?
Please read the posts more carefully before diving in once again without fully having a good grasp as to what was being asked. |

Actually alot of radio stations show the contents of their programes on the internet. So you can infact read a radio conversation that has been broadcast. Ben the moderator posted because your post could have been seen as offensive to the person it was aimed at(the OP). And I did infact read the whole thing through twice and then consulted another mod on whether my post was acceptable.
And as for your again comment, I have told you before that, that was not posted as "Ben the moderator" but as plain old Ben. And this is besides the point as that matter was closed along time ago. |

If someone said that to me, I would be pretty p*****d off.
Maybe that's what FW is offended about.

Well since others seem to find offence in my own posts which to me seem innocuous I thought I would try being more in line with modern times and learning to be over sensitive too
Personally I thought Ben's comment

to be offensive.I certainly took offense at it.
But then I find Ben to be offensive and insulting to me quite often. There is no love lost between us, of that there is no secret. I wonder, now that I have started to show, whether little Benny boy will be as offensive to my face, when we eventually meet at a show somewhere. If he is, I only hope there will be nobody else around to watch what happens next cos I will get ever so slightly miffed and I'm not pretty when I'm miffed. |

How many times do I have to say this! I don't show or keep poultry anymore and I don't go to shows! My interests have changed why can't you understand this! I told you this when you threatened to slap me. |

It's well known that people write stuff that they would NEVER, ever say to anyone's face - that's the cause of many problems on here & other forums.
It's the anonymity that causes people to be bolder than they are in real life.
Of course not everyone is the same. I wouldn't have found Ben's comment offensive, maybe a little bit annoying if I was putting my point across on a certain subject, but obviously you & NannyP did.
I always tend to write & re-write my posts before posting to see if they 'look' right & sound OK. I have posted in the heat of the moment & accidentaly offended some people (for which I was truely sorry! ), but I try very hard not to upset anyone. |

taken as a whole I don't find this offensive at all, as it was later quoted, in this thread, with the first sentence removed it does sound worse.
The written word will always lead to disagreements between people as to which way the words were meant to be taken. One of the perculiarities of our language is that the same word or phrase can have several meanings.

I wholeheartedly agree. Selective quoting makes things look worse, and doesn't do anyone any favours. Ben has shared his concerns with us about whether he should post what he wants to say; just because he is a moderator does not mean he can't have opinions.
I'm reminded of an episode of The West Wing; if we expect those that do the job to be whiter than white and have no history or say stuff that we don't agree with, then all that will happen is people will lie to you instead and tell you what you want to hear, and not what they think, and that doesn't do anyone any good. |

to try and put things on track.
I think the broadcast was one of the farming today programme, maybe about two mouths ago. The animal rights guy was claiming that we as amateur poultry keepers can't give a reasonable quality of life or provide enough biosecurity to protect them from AI and shouldn't keep them. It was in reference to hobby poultry keepers and the avian flu debate.
I *think* the Guardian picked up on this and commented, which was where I *think* I probably read it. I'd guess it could be found with a little time on Google.
and to add my 2p worth - I didn't think Ben's post was offensive. |
