Why did these people not speak up before, before so much hysteria about people catching the flu?

Summayah

link works now. You're right, why hasn't this been said before!! It would have caused much less in the way of hysteria. The News of the World reckons 1 in 4 people will get bird flu!! How's that for a contrast?

OH heard this on the radio the other day, but I couldn't find anything to confirm it.
It's so nice to hear something that isn't all gloom & doom. Wink

The trouble is, like Mel said, the tabloids will still cry with the voice of hysteria. And how many people actually go on line to look for the flu news? We could do with Stephen moving his Independent one over here too.

I posted not so long ago - that the threat from bird flu was incredibly small. It was pretty much ignored - with many saying that they were "going to have to kill their ducks" etc etc. It has been said many times before, that the threat to people in minimal. All this panic (and in my humble opinion, attention seeking) from some in the UK - culling their birds is absolutely ridiculous and adding to the general hysteria.
Yes - if the order to bring them in is given - then cull birds if necessary. But I am really saddened that some people feel that they have to over react to this situation - and then post on this forum after sympathy - as you can tell I am very annoyed about this. My birds are free range - when/if the order comes then I shall deal with it - but not until - I'm certainly not going to slaughter my birds on the off chance.
Bl@@dy ridiculous.

I think up until recently there has been a lot of tabloid hype about the bird flu ~ it is only recently that we have actually had reports that the risks are minimal.
I think we can also say that in some places it will say that we shall have only 24 hours to obey the call to shut them in ~ for some 24 hours is just not long enough. We have to look at this thing sensibly and then do the very best we can for our birds.

that's all very well...but what percentage of that percentage actually work with/are close to poultry? For the average city dweller there's no contact at all apart from feeding the ducks. Confused
