So sorry Lisa and Summayah, and Lisa you haven't let Summayah down, it could happen to anyone.
I live semi rurally and so far have seen nor smelt any sign of foxes, I think I am very lucky.

I have heard that they kill all, and do intend to come back for the rest, so even though it seems like mindless violence, a fox is doing what it needs to to feed it's cubs and make sure they have a full larder. If they get disturbed, then they are unable to come back. Sorry you had to find them like that, it must be awful.

I also live semi-rurally. I've never seen or smelt a fox in the garden and I think that has added to the shock. It just seemed to come out of nowhere.

I think I was naive though, after-all there are fields just over the road. Of course there were going to be foxes about.

I am actually feeling slightly better about everything now. You've all been really nice and I am starting to believe that I really did do everything possible to avoid this, I was just unlucky.

Thank you all once again for your kind words.

Think I will be giving the chicken keeping a miss for the time being. I want to give myself a bit of time to convert my brick built shed into a coop and build a more secure run nearer to my house. I think I might wait until the risk of AI has passed a bit too before I consider getting any more girls.

It would be a shame to give up on something that you get so much pleasure from - but i understand how you are feeling. think on it some more before making any major changes.

And the images in your head do fade - trust me on that... Confused
