If it were me I would look at what animals are out there already, you migth find a cow/goat that you really like. a Jersey may not be suited to the land and could harmed by the disease. just a though though, I love then both.

We've got goats, and I think they are fantastic. they are very friendly, and the children love them. We are expecting our first kid any moment... the female has jsut gone into labour (we think).

However...I am desperate for a cow, and the wife wont let me...she thinks it will be too much hard work milking every day...especially when I am not around

Does anyone have any thoughts on how much effort is required?

OK - the college course last night was goats, it's official i love alpines and toggs.. which only makes the choice more difficult. My goat tutor does have links in both Sweden and Finland where she has exported goats and will give me some contacts. She used to work in Norway for 2 and a half years too and tells me there are plenty of jersey herds in Scandinavia.

I may very well just have to have both *if* we have enough room...

Embarassed sorry Steph Shocked
