Thanks Mojo, I shall take the bull by the horns and brave it! (Having done as you suggest and checked out how and where first!)

if you're going to use a tarp ~ make sure you have it higher at one side than the other and taut enough so that rain runs off. I tried to a small part of my run when I had the broody and chicks, just to keep the chicks warm and dry. I used heavy duty polythene, but I couldn't get it tight enough to stop the rain collecting in the middle ~ it was a disaster!
But to be fair is was good enough for the time I wanted it. |

Mmm! I have had that problem in large tents before now!
A pole up the middle should help prevent puddles forming. |

Years of experience camping with scouts and trying to hold down marquees in gale force winds helps!! |

Well I'm married to an ex-scout leader and he never said anything about a pole up the middle! |

My friend lost some chickens to a fox in a run that was considerably higher than 6'
Please where can I find a scout leader?

| Zooey has one ~ don't know that he's for loan though! And it sounds like madslg either is one or knows one. |
