| lovely pics, well done with the hatch. Is it something to do with spots on the heads ~ boys or girls, or is that just the french marans? |

Oh believe me, I want to I really do!! And I will, one day. But...
While we're here I have the problem of what to do with the boys that hatch. In theory I'd be happy to grow them on for eating but I don't think they will all agree to keep quiet, without a single crow, until they're big enough to eat... And being in town, they'd have to.
So until we can move, I'll just have to oooo and ahhhhh over everyone else's
So keep the piccies and the stories coming - its as near a fix as I can get |

Lisa if you hatch a light Sussex cross road island red. you can tell instantly what they are when they hatch.
the hens are brown and the cockerels are all yellow.
not that I'm trying to tempt you or any thing though |

I know you can get the crosses you can id at day 1, but I'd still have the problem of what to do with the boys. Can't imagine anyone would want just boys, so that just leaves the option of bumping them off at birth. I know that does happen (I've opened the freezers with the solid lids at the pet shops out of curiosity to see what was inside and found the snake food ) but its not an option I think I could go for.
Besides, roast chicken for me sounds much nicer |
