That's nice of you Knobby Razz

So, Mojo, that's your parsnips sorted - what else you after? Funnily enough I'm sitting here this evening having a sort through my seeds. I'll probably also have some that could do with a new home too...

Plus, Nettos over here are selling D T Brown's seeds for 19p a packet - don't know how they can do it Shocked Bit of a limited range, but all good for growing Razz

Hi Mojo, Parsnip seed is a very poor keeper. Its best to start with fresh each year as its fairly cheap. It doesn't like cold wet ground when it goes in, so if it says on the packet, sow Feb don't and wait until mid to late April and you will get much better germination.

They grow like any other root veg, i treat them the same as carrots. I think they may be related to dandelion if that hints at how easy they are to grow. To taste, hmmm, they're called the vegetable oyster, and they do have that delicate type flavour. you can also eat the young shoots either blanched or raw in salads.

I also grow salsify, which is very similar but white skinned rather than black.

[edit to correct spellling]

Aaaw, bless her Very Happy

Most seeds (apart from parsnips!) keep well past the theoretical use-by date - I've sown seeds 2 ir 3 years past their date with no problem Smile
