|
|
I had my first real breakthrough with them today!
I went out to their run to check on them and as they heard me approach they all came dashing out to meet me!!
I am dead chuffed at this as until today they all try to hide as far away from me as possible.
The next major step now that they have settled will be trying to integrate them with the others. I think i will try that tomorrow so watch this space! |

That is really excellent; I know it's one of the things that perks me up, no matter how bad a day it's been, that when you go up to the girls, they come running at breakneck speed to greet you. Ok, it's because they want food, but who cares, they come to see you - I like that ! |

Lovely to hear your news
I bet you know this already (but on the grounds I'd rather hear something twice than not at all, here goes).... do give them something to distract them from pecking each other when they first meet eg scratch feed on the ground / several feed bowls / yummy treats / loads of space etc
Best of luck for tomorrow. Looking forward to hear how it goes |

Stephen you are right, it never fails to make me smile! Mind you, niblet usually then decides that my trouser leg looks tasty and trys to have a nibble!
If there is not too much blood then i will try for some more photos tomorrow!
Lisa thanks for the advice. To be honest, what i am debating is do i open the run and shut the oven readies out of the house or do i put the original 4 in the run with the oven readies (they have been free ranging for the last week) - decisions decisions....
I have to say though, it has been really great to get all of your support! All my non chooky friends and colleagues just think i am barmy - and that includes the OH!! |

Everybody thinks I'm bonkers - I just figure I may as well prove them right
I agree - one of the best things in the world is opening the kitchen door to be greeted by my five mad chooks racing towards me Trouble is they're getting a bit too sharp - the minute I show my face in the kitchen window they flap up into the window box and start hammering the glass! Considering that they're only quite little, they can look very intimidating to people who don't know them
Good luck for tomorrow - looking forward to the next pics |

It's probably only 'cupboard love' but who cares! It's great when they race to greet you when they see you coming, isn't it?
And really funny to see them running about chasing each other to get the tastiest treat.
They always bring a smile to my face! |

I agree! I know they only want me for my scraps, but their enthusiasm at my arrival never fails to make me smile.
I have a stool in the run that I sit on to watch them - there is one maran in particular who likes to sneak up and peck me on the b*m.
Call me kinky - but I find that quite endearing too |
