Hi

Just a quick question- having had hybrid hens before i thought i would now get 6 purebred chickens. Can you put different breeds of chickens together- say 2 buff orps , 2 legbars and 2 others together - bought on the same day and housed together in a small paddock?

Any advice gratefully received!

Hi,
yes you can, they will have a bit of a sqabble till they get the pecking order sorted but know where near as bad as if you are adding one to and existing flock
the only thing to watch is if you got 5 hens from one place that knew each other and a sixth from somewhere else

hello kspencerbowden ~ I had a mixture of all different breeds and also large fowl and bantams ~ there was never any problem. As already mentioned I used to get them in at least 2s so that they would have a friend when in a new home. Also like Mojo said if you watch them when they first come out of the house and at the first sign of pecking throw corn, you'll soon see that their tummies are more important than pecking another girl!
