I wonder if anyone can answer me this, how can you tell which hens are laying? I have 7 large hens and 6 are laying regular, i never seem to catch them laying, so i don't know which one isn't. i am not bothered that one isn't laying more curious to know which one it is. Anyone out there got an answer to this one. |

Hi Paula
Well I'm new to all this but I think the main indicator is the redness of their comb and dangly bits ! So if you have one who's looking more pink than red then she's the girl who's biding her time.
I'm sure someone else will be along soon who will know more than me. |

| Also, with mine....the ones in lay seem to be more friendly and make more silly "clucking" noises ! |

| There is always the chance that they might all be laying - not every hen will lay an egg every day, so they may be taking turns to have a day off! |

you could always turn them upside down ,just under the vent there is 2 pin bones on the outside of the chicken depending wether you can 1 finger or 3 ,3 fingers means it's laying .
mind you don't do this in full view of the nieghbours
i just heard somebody in a village had been seen and everybody had been avioding him as they thought he was a chicken molester ,there's a lot of red faces now( embassed face)

| I always went by the colour of their bits and pieces ~ and like Knobby says, they seem to calm down once they start to lay......................or most of them do! |

Mine all went exceedingly soppy when they started to lay and whenever you go near them they do the whole submissive stampy thing - except of course when you are late for work and trying to get them back in the pen!
