Thanks Smuggler.
It doesn't seem to have changed any and I have put honey on it only, so far.
When your friend says remove it - what exactly are they meaning? (The mind boggles!!)

| He is talking about removing any feather coming through the the scales.I would also say, once you treat it for infections and everything is back to normal and healed, keep an eye out for any loose scales,if you have any, let me know--PM me if you like , in case I`,m not around the board. |

I get you now thanks!
But this isn't on a scaly bit of the leg it is just skin.
I did have a half hearted attempt at pulling the feather sticking out - but it seemed quite solidly stuck and I didn't want to hurt her! |

| If it is on the skin part, then treat it as you would a blister--if after it heals, there is any dead skin, trim off the dead skin, keep an eye on the feathers in that area--if they seem to interfere with the healing you will have to be brave and pull out the feather that is causing the problem. If no problem with the healing--leave the feathers alone.Be sure that while healing none get stuck in the wounded area, such as being healed over as the wound heals(Like if it were to lay in the wound and the skin tries to heal over it , then you would have to trim the feather back or pull it) |

Hi Smuggler!
Thanks for asking about her.
I checked it again yesterday - and although it looks pretty much the same I'd say the harder lumpy bit is a bit smaller. It doesn't seem to be bothering her any - so I will just keep my eye on it.
I did have a thought about it though. I put leg bands on all my chooks yesterday. When it came to sumo, - one) I didn't have a band big enough - and two) there was no space amongst her feathered legs to put one on. I'm wondering if at sometime she has had a band on that's caused this 'thing'. |

I've had her since the middle of December. But don't know if she has ever been rung or anything.
The 'thing' isn't open or weeping or anything like that. It is more like empty excess elbow skin, if that makes sense! |

I'm obviously struggling to describe it properly. Although the pics look gruesome, it has never been 'open' at least not since I found it.
It's almost as if the whole lot of baggy skin - may have contained something - and the harder bit is all that's left. I'm not saying that's the way it is or was - but the best way I can describe what it appears like. |

from your last description it sounds like at one point she's had an abcess or swelling which has gone but left the skin stretched.
(A bit like a let down balloon that never goes back to the shape it was)
I'd keep an eye on it, especially where the feather comes out

Yes Debs!
That's the sort of thing I'm trying to describe.
Or a baggy belly when you first give birth!! ROFL |
