Today I was cleaning out the hen house, stopped while I spoke to dad on the phone - surrounded by chickens who wouldn't go out into the sunshine, and a pinky brown egg was laid right in front of me by one of my 2 suspects. Had to end call to grab chciken so I could leg ring her - now I know which one to keep!
Also threw out all the chickens, have some that never want to leave the hen house and today was far too nice for that, I was out, kicked Craig out to play and the chickens were going out too! lol! Will probably have to go out and shove them all back in now - some don't like the rubber matting I have at the pop hole, but it's the only way to keep the starlings out! |

I cut a car mat into strips and nailed it in front of the pop hole. I was having a lot of probs with starlings coming ito the hen house, making a mess and eating all the food. Some of the chickens aren't too keen on it but my food bill has gone right down!

Ooh I'd love to see an egg actually being laid!
What a lovely thing for you to identify your suspect ROFL!
Great idea for the door BTW! |

Glad you found out which one it was.
We don't have rubber matting, just ordinary curtains on our pop hole. We started using it when we had a bluetit go in & wasn't able to find it's way out again.
Luckily we haven't got a crow or magpie problem, but plenty of starlings! |
