Hi,
It seems a few people have had problems accessing the website over the last few
days with a very strange message about cookies and things being too long for the
request etc, etc.
I've traced it down on several peoples computers to an issue with Internet
Explorer corrupting the cookies for the website. Cookies are used by the website
so you don't have to type in your username and password each time you visit the
website. For some reason some people using IE this week have had their cookies
corrupted - why, I do not know. Whether it is specific versions or not I am not
totally sure, seeing as it seems to only be a handful that are affected.
Those that are affected can't access the forums, hence this e-mail!
The good news is the cure is quick and easy. You need to clear your cookies. In
internet explorer this is done by clicking on Tools, Internet Options, Delete
Cookies.
To warn you, you will have to re-login to websites that use cookies after you
have done this.
If that seems too drastic for you, you can find the troublesome cookie. Click on
tools, internet options, and to the right of delete cookies there is a button
called settings - click that. Now click "View files". You need to delete the
files that begin with the word "cookie:" and have "thepoultrykeeper.co.uk" in
the last part of the name.
The first option is the easiest!
If you get stuck, please mail me and I will try and help.
Best wishes,
Stephen" |

A couple of people have had problems getting on to the site in the last few days.
After investigating it was found in one case at least to be cookies.
This was a general email sent out to everyone to explain the problem and how best to resolve it.
Not everyone will be affected

I got the email as well I think it was sent to all members.
I'm not having any problems on my Laptop. Although I couldn't access it from my neighbours even though there were no cookies stored. But no biggie! |

| It is a strange one - I've never encountered this before. My work laptops and my home PCs have no problem with IE when I tested it, yet some people are having problems. It does seem to be IE specific, though. |

| The only other thing I can think of is to check that the latest windows / IE updates and security patches etc have been downloaded and applied? |

| The other thing I wondered was if one of these security holes has allowed the cookies to be damaged by a third-party. I know it's not very comforting, but it's the world we live in. |

| Dunno - you haven't changed mail address or anything, have you? Or a overzealous spam filter? |
