Thankfully this area has been quiet for a while. This was in the news today:

From the BBC

Quote:
A Turkish boy has died in hospital as doctors wait to find out if he and three siblings had contracted bird flu.

The four children had eaten chicken which had been slaughtered while showing signs of disease, say doctors in the south-eastern city of Van.

The hospital's head doctor confirmed the death of the 14-year-old boy to the semi-official news agency Anatolia.

Test results could be known on Monday, said a health official. Bird flu is only one possible cause, doctors say.

"They are suspected cases of bird flu since they ate a sick chicken and they were in close contact with fowl," the hospital's head doctor said.

One other boy and two girls remain in hospital.

Two other patients, including another child, were also reportedly sent to the hospital for tests.

News on BBC website again:

Quote:
A 14-year-old Turkish boy who died at the weekend was not killed by bird flu, the country's health ministry says.

The boy was initially feared to have died from the same virus that has killed more than 70 people in Asia.

Three of his siblings, who were also taken ill, have also tested negative for the disease, while tests on two others have still not been returned.

It is still not clear what did kill Mehmet Ali Kocyigit, officials said.

"The disease is not caused by bird flu or any other flu virus," Turan Buzgan, a health ministry official, said.

The hospital where the boy was on life support before he died said he had pneumonia, according to CNN-Turk television, but this was not confirmed by the ministry.

here is the original report http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?id=95782
and the follow up one http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?id=96976

It wasn't avian flu but pneumonia. So sad for the family as they have so many children sick with the same thing.
