Sussex were originally bred as meat birds and the breed standard reflects this. They still produce an excellent carcase especially if crossed with Indian Game cockerels. They were later developed as dual purpose and selected to lay lots of tinted eggs. Much of this has been lost in breeding for the show bench. There are now few strains that will lay 250 or more eggs a year. They have been, and remain, one of the all time favourites. They are placid, fairly undemanding and easy to keep.
They come in several colours buff, red, speckled, light and coronation.
Sussex have been used to a great extent in producing hi breds along with the Rhode Island Red and the Leghorn.

AC...It looks like you clicked on the thumbnail for the pic instead of opening up the thumbnail to get the actual photo. |

Hi
I specialise in Sussex, I have been breeding Sussex now for over 7 years and showing for 2 years. All my birds are from british show stock which i Have worked on for over 5 years and now have my own strians which i have not placed any new blood in for over 3 years.
I breed 7 colors of Sussex and have won Sussex Champion at this years irish national with my speckled sussex cock.
I have also set up a website which at the time and i still believe is the only website 100% dedicated to Sussex check it out at www.sussex.tk
