Last week I said:

Quote:
Ok, Christmas is fast approaching and we want to do something for Christmas.

My proposal is this - whatever advertising income and associate money we get from Google and Amazon from 1st December to 25th December will be donated to the registered poultry related charity of the forum members choice.

We get a small amount of money from Google adverts and we get between 5% and 7.5% of any Amazon sales made via our links or via the shop area of the website. Any money you spend at Amazon on goods that ship between 1st December and 25th December will go into the pot - typically a minimum of 5% of each sale, and in some cases as much as 7.5%. Some goods have a cap (ie single expensive electrical items over about £100).

Heck, if I get really brave I'll knock up a thermometer showing you how we're doing too... Just like the local church Wink

We want your suggestions of a charity to donate the pot to. I am opening the nominations as of now, and it'll close at 30th November 2005 at midnight. The only caveats are that it must a poultry charity and it must be a registered charity.

On December 1st, when I wake up, the list of suggestions will be opened as a poll. You will be able to vote for your choice of charity. The vote will close on the morning of December 18th.

After 25th December I will run the reports and find out how much is due to the charity of your choice and they will get the pot.

I hope this is ok with everyone and I hope you will now make your suggestions to this thread.

The members of the forum have suggested two registered charities;

The Battery Hen Welfare Trust
Charity Commission Registration details

Compassion in World Farming Trust
Charity Commission Registration

The question is which charity do you want the pot to go to? Please read both sites before voting.

In addition, a little note... You will notice the new Firefox Google advert at the bottom of the pages; Google are on a Firefox drive at the moment, and if you download and install Firefox via that link we get another $0.50 - $1 for the pot.

Just to let you know how the pot is going along, bearing in mind it's Christmas so there are more Amazon orders than usual, and the Firefox promotion is doing us *very* well...

So far there is £5.44 in the pot. Thanks to you all so far! Keep ordering, and consider downloading and installing Firefox from the links on the site!

Thanks to those making their Amazon purchases through the site, they are appreciated and are adding nicely to the pot, as are the Firefox installs from the links on the site.

As an aside, the DVD rental makes a very nice contribution to the pot... If I said if you haven't previously joined it, and use the direct link on the pages, almost all of the 1st months rental went to the pot on the 3 discs for the month program...?

An update... So far, assuming no-one returns stuff to Amazon, etc... There is now about £17 in the pot from Amazon sales, Firefox downloads and a little bit from the adverts.

Only a couple days to go till the poll closes - if you haven't voted already, please do!

So far in the pot there is about £27 from Amazon sales etc. before returns.

The poll closes this weekend - I've noticed a sudden surge in Amazon shipping... The pot is now at £31!

Well, the vote is clear - if rather smaller than I hoped for. The pot will be going to The Battery Hen Welfare Trust.

Any purchases made from Amazon between now and Christmas, and advertising income will be going to The Battery Hen Welfare Trust. A lot of you have made some very nice purchases from Amazon which have boosted the pot wonderfully!

Many thanks for your support; I'll post a total later on in the week to let you know how it's going.

A very big thank you!

Ok, there are a few days to go, but we are now over the £40 mark! When you work out we get between 5% and 7.5% of each amazon sale, it gives you a real idea of just how much you've spent in the Amazon stores between you. It's really appreciated.

It looks like a nice healthy cheque will be going to the ex-battery hens.
