Hi Stuffed

Glad to hear your chookie is on the mend!

I had one with a "big bum" earlier in the year, so have been through a simillar search as you.

At the time I too concluded it wasn't ascites or egg peritonitis either as they seem to be very serious and kill very quickly.

Just wanted to add that if you want to cut her calories down a bit (as I understand over weight can lead to problems with laying the eggs) you can also feed fresh veggies which are lower in calories than either mash or pellets. Some chooks will peck at things like whole cabbages hung up. Some are more fussy (mine Rolling Eyes ) and they will only eat them if they are chopped up about the same size as pellets. I just throw some of whatever veggies (fresh or cooked) I have handy in the fridge into the food processor to chop 'em small and stir it through some mash...

Yes, my girls are spoilt Laughing

Good luck - my fingers are crossed for you that it was just a one off hiccup in her egg laying!

I do hang greens up and she pecks at them a bit but overall she's not keen on anything other than her pellets Rolling Eyes
The only thing she goes mad for on the very rare occasions I have given it is bread but as I say anything else she could take or leave.

Mine love bread too, but I now mix it with oats, hot water & natural yogurt & anything else I have left over. Cooked rice, veg, potato, pasta etc. Like a porridge! Smile
