5 of our 6 girls are sporting whiter than normal faces, and there combs have lost their redness. Closest to their beaks they look like theve had a dusting of powder. Will this be fungal or lice. Ive yet to have a thorough look over them. But now the holdiay is upon me I will manage to get a good look.
It would be preferable if the cure was suitable for the cranks corner, I really dont want a chemical solution if at all avoidable.
Thanks |

If the white on their faces looks powdery ,I would venture to say it is a fungus called Favus.
Favus
Introduction
A fungal infection, Trichophyton gallinae, of chickens and turkeys. It is very rare in commercial poultry production.
Signs
White, powdery spots and wrinkled crusts and scab on comb and wattles.
Feather loss.
‘Honeycomb’ skin.
Thick crusty skin.
Loss of condition.
Post-mortem lesions
Diagnosis
Lesions, isolation.
Treatment
Formalin in petroleum jelly.
Prevention
Good hygiene of facilities, culling affected birds. |
