Waddya reckon?
I have found a 4' x 1' 3" hutch and 4x3 ft foldable run for next to nowt.
Am thinking that with a little fettling I could convert the hutch to a hen house by boarding it up and putting a pop hole and sliding door in then running a ramp up to it. If I make the back third a communal nest box and put the perch in the middle 3rd with the last 3rd for entry it should work. Also means the whole thing is on legs which if I add a few inches to them there will be space underneath for the girls dust bath and hanging food dooda's. |

I have modified a rabbit hutch and use it for new gals with its own run inside the main run and also find that once the new chicks integrate it doubles up as 'sick quarters' should I need to separate one from the others (or could be used for a broody -not more chicks!! hehe!! ) |

I have one that I used as a broody house for my little welsummer girl and her chicks. Like HeatherBB I arranged it's own run for the time they were in there inside the main run so everyone could see everyone else but the chicks were safe. Onlu modification I did was to put a small ramp down from one of the doors ~ I used to raise this at nights to make them doubly safe in there.

I ended up going to a car boot and getting a 3 drawer chest for £3 and converting it. Works great and with Georges wire mesh donation the entire lot cost just the £3.
Lurverly! |
