Awh, I thought everyone knew.
I don't have any hens yet, coz I wanted to say I have known them all from hatching Laughing

Maybe not the best way around, but it's good fun

It's a Maino something or other, automatic (takes 24 eggs)

Got all the kit for them when they hatch and we picked up the chick crumbs the other day so they'll have something to eat when they get peckish

I was chatting to the neighbours yesterday about them and they don't care if there's a coq as they have hens as well Laughing

The only problem is , these are all large fowl, I should have looked up about them before hand as they get quite big,

I should maybe have got bantams instead.

So the next lot of eggs to go in will be bantam I think.

Have to see how well I get on with these first Surprised

I did lilly's suggestion of dowsing the eggs, and there was supposedly (if you believe it) 1 each of the Light Sussex the Speckled could be a hen, I think the welsummer were 1 male and 1 didn't move and there were 2 male and 1 female maran.

However, when I candled 1 of the LS looked clear, so not sure it works that well Evil or Very Mad

We saw some bantam LS at Salibury auction POL that were a nice size and the OH liked the look of the vorwerk, so might get them at some point,

Don't want to go too crazy though, or I could end up like Deb and poultry_puffs Razz
