showoff Nigel ..........but what a good idea for run covering ,you are a bright lad ,even a plastic gasebo thingy would do for someone with a small space to cover....well done lateral thinking works again...............mojo

I think we'll just buy corregated plastic sheets and attach them inside the run to the roof and along the open side. That should do it, and as Nigel says, will make it all weather proof, which in someways is good, as I cannot keep wood/bark chips in there because of the slope. The hens scratch them all down and then out Rolling Eyes

Well, I'm wanting to upload a pic of our place, but can someone tell me please how to do it on this forum? It's not obvious and the 'img' seems to say that the image needs to come from a URL (web address) and not from a hard drive location.

NannyP, my girls were forever kicking the wood chips out of the run, even thoough the weld mesh is 1" x.5", so I've stapled a polythene barrier all around the bottom 12" ~ much tidier now!

We bought a 4 x 5 metre tarp today in B & Q. It should go over the run and have a bit of an overlap. Hopefully, if weather holds off, we'll do it tomorrow Very Happy

I've decided that since the run will then stay practically dry, I'll put a big bale or 2 of straw on the ground, and just turn that until it needs changing.

how are you going the tarpaulin fix it down? I tried covering a part of my run with heavy gauge polythene over the netting and when it rained it just sagged so badly in the middle, I ran the chance of it pulling the sides of the run in. That was with one end about 10" higher than the other end. Please can you let me know how you get on after it has rained?

it has loads of eyelets along the edges, and we bought a hole load of corded string, to thread through these and tie it down. All I will do is stand and help, Mark will be the one doing the technical stuff Batting Eyelashes

which he's good at.

I think I know what might be confusing you. The run is already covered with a netting roof, so the tarp shouldn't sag.

This is how it looked earlier today and underneath is how it looks this afternoon. Not brilliant but there is so much vegetation growing over the top, it's impossible to cover right to the back.

Inside is a little darker, but not that much

possibly telling tankman the obvious but put a pole in the centre of the run up to the tarp so you form a little pyramid for rain run off ....dont forget to make the runoff NOT the gate side.....luv mojo

He got grumpy whilst we were doing it, and I decided to keep my very helpful opinions to myself. So, if I ask him to do one more thing towards it, he'll get grumpy again.
