According to this article in Farmers Weekly it appears that while you must register if you're in Northern Ireland, it's unclear if the mainland is to be included.

Our local authority have already asked residents to register any outside birds with them. (Apparently so they can keep them updated with information - yeah right!!!)
This was announced via local radio.
There is no way I'll be registering my flock until it's absolutely necessary. (ie a legal requirement or similar)

every year everyone with a croft gets a form to fill out, every animal you own goes on it.
Poultry is split into hens, ducks and geese. Hens are split into laying, growers and chicks (IIRC)
When I filled it in I only had about 30 hens, 2 geese and 10 ducks, it's grown alot since then Rolling Eyes

they need to know about these things just incase there's an emergency Exclamation

.but i went to a class at begining of oct and we were told there that in the next few weeks we would have to regester our flocks ,sac teacher Shocked

,deb has the paperwork from it don't know if it says anything in there ,

Yeah, we filled out one of those SEERAD things la couple of years ago for our croft - but all we had then was two horses and far too much rusty machinery... Laughing

he seemed to think if you had around the fifty mark then they would want to hear from you soon though this is seerad (scotland )not england ,but there dosn't seem to be all the scaremongering up here that there seems to be elsewhere .although that could be just that i don't see a paper very much ,pretty layed back about everything here Cool

England? DEFRA said they want to learn from the mistakes they made during their obscene handling of the last foot & mouth nightmare. However, I won't be rushing to sign any of their official bits of paper.

Don't know if any one watched countryfile last sunday but they had a women on their from defra sugguesting private poultry keepers register with a vet so as they can be traced if need be.
