| I live in hope ~ I'm an optimist in most things. Other things maybe not, but in this definitely the optimist, probably because the other is too difficult to get my head round! |

I'm with you Summayah, I wait and see and then act.
I hope I don't have to do anything too drastic |

Fairly vague update today (27 Oct) on DEFRA website:
COMMISSION DECISION BANNING BIRDS AT MARKETS, SHOWS AND FAIRS
Does say:
| Quote: | | It may be possible to authorise some events to go ahead based on a veterinary risk assessment specific to that event. |
So that doesn't sound like its a full ban on all movement - but until we see the details, its still all a bit of a guess. |

From everything I've read - it's a ban on mass gathering / movement of birds - which makes sense - as that's when avian flu' could spread IF it gets here. But buying one or two chickens, taking a bird to the vet (unless it has symptoms of the flu') shouldn't be a problem yet......
Hope it won't be an issue in the new year either - as we will have a cockerel ready for the pot by then - and while I would be happy to pluck etc - I don't know how to dispatch humanely - but our local butcher runs an "oven prep" service that I was hoping to take advantage of..... |

| I think it was in PP last month about 'doing the deed' the correct way. |

| At lunchtime today I heard the tail end of a report on tv that said that domestic poultry keepers (those of us with a few hens in the garden) are required to notify any significant deaths or illness in their chickens. |

Still no news on the DEFRA website that I can see - even though they said in advance they would announce some new restrictions yesterday.
The only thing I can see is that they updated their Q&A's on AI yesterday. Although I have no idea exactly which bit of the 49 Q&As they actually changed because they don't exactly make that obvious in any way
Ho hum - still allowed to go and buy chickens today then everyone |
