I have a question that could spark a good debate, but...............
If worse comes to worse and you are found to be in an infected area. Couldn't you scoop up what fertile eggs you may have and put them in storage for a few days, then start the incubator up and a month down the road keep the hatched chicks in the house for 6 weeks and then move them into a shed or something? That would give you 2 1/2 months prior to any birds being moved outside and in view of other people. |

Don't know Deb. I don't have any fertile eggs so I don't have that choice. Good idea though.
Would you really just give it all up Knobby? |

We may not know whether the fertile eggs are carriers of the disease, so it would not be a good idea to take the risk.

| It would also depend on the gorvernment stance on this. If they say total cull then I believe that is what it will be and I don't think they will hear you if you tell them these chicks were born after the event and have been inside for however many weeks. In the same way I don't think our girls (and boys) will be safe if we keep them in sheds or barns or whatever. If the order to cull is put in action ~ no-one will be interested in how well you kept them in ~ if you live in the cordoned area I believe they will be taken from us. |

I have decided that if it looks like they're going to be culled, then I'll get my friend to do them all, and we'll eat them.
Sounds callous, but I see no point in the ministry coming round and killing them all and carting them off. What a waste.

| Maybe through Winter when you don't see them anyway, but wouldn't you miss them in the spring/summer? What about the lack of eggs!! |
