Have now got 13, don't think the remaining 3 French Marans will hatch now - but cant see to candle them as they are so dark.
Now for a contentious issue; I helped 2 of them out of their shells. One of them looks a bit weak and is still in the incubator, but the other is fine and now in the brooder box with the others. The one which is fine was from an egg 'found' in my gold silkies pen. I always suspected it was not laid by them, as it seemed too big and suspected my neighbour of 'planting' it from one of his chickens pens. Well it hatched into a lovely 4 toed black chick...wait till I see him Mad

wILL U BE GIVING HIM THE CHICK BACK ? Ive helped lots of chics out of their shells.....It would take a pretty heartless person not too ! They all seem to do fine, and if theyve got that far, its only right that you give them a chance....

No way is he getting the chick back, finders keepers...unless its a cockerel Very Happy
Actually I should own up to why he did it. His wife is a very good friend of mine and a few months ago she bought a pair of Black Silkies. Everyday she hopefully checked their nestboxes for eggs which was always empty, until I planted a blue legbar egg. Whistle
She was ecstatically excited for a week, and kept saying that she never knew that Silkies laid blue eggs. After a week I got rumbled. Laughing
OK OK, I know I have got what I deserved Rolling Eyes

two were really in a bad way when they finally came out and didn't make it.
One really weak one is now running around the brooder with the rest, it's just a bit smaller but catching up.
I had one batch who seemed to be too big for the egg and couldn't chip all the way round, just in one place,
