Here are some warnings given by the World Health organisation regarding the Avian influenza and migratory birds http://www.who.int/csr/don/2005_10_13/en/index.html

Large amounts of the virus are known to be excreted in the droppings from infected birds. Populations in affected countries are advised to avoid contact with dead migratory birds or wild birds showing signs of disease.

Countries located along migratory routes need to be vigilant for signs of disease in wild and domestic birds. Recent events make it likely that some migratory birds are now implicated in the direct spread of the H5N1 virus in its highly pathogenic form.

Just been on Farming Today that the parrot most likely didn't have the disease when it came into the country, it caught it off some other birds from Taiwan that died a few days before it did... The people who imported the birds are in the process of being traced, but at the moment they don't know where they are.

I believe the parrot was imported from South America.

The parrot was from Surinam but was kept in quarantine with some birds from Taiwan who the believe to be the locus of this outbreak

i think that don't panic is the main thing most of us are doing everything we can ,i've got everything ready if we have to bring everything in doors and a lot of my birds are now in seeing as there are migrating geese on the field at the back ,but we will just have to be sensable ,and hope for the best .worring will not change anything

Bit confused that they are going to destroy them all - I thought if they had antibodies they are able to make a vaccine from that?
