I have a patch of young leeks. Should I split and replant now for a spring harvest?

They were self seeded in a tight patch. Have now lifted and replanted about 2in deep roughly 4-5 in apart in an old tin bath with holes drilled in. Alos fed with chook poo pellets miexd with multi purpose compo. Watered and left. Will see when they are ready. I have read that they may be ready spring.
