we have got some huge pumpkins in the garden anyone know the correct way to turn them into lanterns .....do you cut the top off or the bottom to put the candle in and take out the pips?do you cut out the face before or after cleaning out the pips........silly i know but dont want to waste them as they are huge but only have 3 whoppers.....mojo Laughing

A while since I did this but if memory severs correctly take the top off, clean out the inside then cut the face. It's near impossible to cut a face with all the seeds in.

Take off the top, take out the insides to make a lovely pumkin pie (I assume they're lovely, but never eaten them) and the cut in the face.

Yep thats right. If you want it last for ages, you should cut it off the vine with about 3 inches left ( for the handle), then leave it in a warm place for 10 days then a cooler place. The skin will go hard, cut off the top, scoop out the inside and slice a face into it.

Pumpkin pie is ok Confused
pumpkin soup however is yummy Smile especially roasted pumpkin with melting cheese - but not so easy to do that when scooping the flesh out to make Jack O' lanterns

I love pumpkin pie! And the seeds are great rinsed, sprinkled with a little salt and roasted!

The seeds are supposed to be good for something else as well Very Happy Embarassed
