A young Whitestar

This leghorn based hybrid is my best layer. She lays large (74g plus) eggs most days. Since she started laying last year she has missed less than ten days.

She is the most nervous of my bunch. The first to take flight and - so far - has never eaten from my hand. Very good free ranger and very hardy. If you want lots of large white eggs then this one is for you. Probably not one for young children though.

My 5 year old son picks up our White Star (Princess Leia) every day for a little cuddle... She will sit on your lap and eat from your hand... They can be tamed!

Does anyone have an Amber Star? Mine is very beautiful - white but with brown edges to some of the feathers - looks a bit like a buff laced wyandotte, but of course the comb isn't a Wyandotte shape comb. She's my youngest hen (just come into lay), but quite a character. A couple a days after we got her she disappeared at bedtime and we searched the garden for ages and sadly admitted defeat and waited for the foxes to get her, wherever she was....then in the morning, there she was, having spent a night alone, out in the open! Maybe we should rename her Lucky!!

I used to have 3 amber stars, they were great layers and one of them got so tame that it would sit on your shoulder like a parrot!!

Here is our White star with my daughter who chose her for her birthday! Shes a very pretty hen, like a
dove!We have only had her 4 weeks. She started laying 1 week ago.She is quite tame, and will eat out of our hand. She only lays quite small eggs apart from the double yolker she layed on Monday! When my daughter said she wanted her i wasnt sure because I had heard they wernt that friendly, but she seems to like us...well when we have food anyway!! Laughing
