Young pair of partridge wyandotte bantams. Cockerel is a hen breeder.
Wyandottes come in a series of colours:
Partridge
Gold Laced
Silver Laced
Buff Laced
Blue Columbian
Blue Laced
Blue Splashed
Black
And a few others, with mroe being dveloped all the time.
They are an old breed, originally from England, I think . Eggs are large, and are creamy brown, or at least the eggs I had were. Wyandottes are good layers. The breed is generally docile, and tame, and pretty easy to handle.
A very hansome bird, common among the show ground, as well as gardens. The standards call for yellow legs. This is the part that most breeders find hardest to get, and can take them a long time to achieve.

I was just about to run outside with my camera - when I remembered the connection to my pc vanished after a storm last week and haven't sorted it out yet - technical wizard I am not!!
I have been given what I was told is a barred wyandotte - is this a comment on her status in the public houses of the area? or is it actually a breed type. She looks the same shape as the birds shown here but is stripy! |

Nigel (and Hobbes??)
Thank you !! That's the one...now I know for sure!
She is rather grumpy though, is that due to being relocated without the rest of her friends do you think? She is housed with buff orpingtons and Light Sussex with Vinnie the Cockerel..... |

I always thought it was pigs that got rid of bodies! Not chickens. |

I keep telling people chickens aren't vegetarians, despite what the powers that be have decided about chicken food, but will anyone believe me?
