Coddled egg

Coddled egg: boil water, add egg to boiling water immediately remove from heat, cover and let stand for 1 minute, remove from water and let cool.

Thanks.

If I'm going to have my boiled I like a little bit of runny, Coddled sounds a lot runny.

Coddlers are small china cups that you put your raw egg into and then stand in water. I have always poached my egg loose in boiling water, occasionally it separates but generally its successfull, but I thought these seem like a way of guaranteeing it stays intact. ... theres no reason it should get watery unless its undercooked!

The egg coddler is usually ceramic so its a good insulator of heat and the egg will cook inside just as well as if it was poached. My grandma used to make us coddled eggs when we stayed with her and they were lovely. Like boiled eggs without the shell.
