That's interesting. Two of them have much more developed red bits and pieces so I wondered if they were older. I don't have nest boxes ready yet !
I gave up trying to put them to bed last night and left them in their run. When I went and checked with a torch at 8.30pm they had gone in ! I was delighted that they are actually doing what they are supposed to ! I have opened the hen house this morning and it is covered in droppings. I cleaned it out yesterday afternoon and it was hardly soiled. Is this a sign of anything ? |

This is normal. They know when to go to bed! And they poo overnight too, so you will get droppings everywhere.
I can't get the link - tried last night & now. Says it's not available, or something??

I'm sure I read that hens do 2 thirds of their droppings at night, which is why it's a good idea to have something under the perches that makes it easy to clean |

I only mentioned the dropping because of the huge increase in volume. I've just been out and mucked out both the house and run, I'm exhausted now !
I've made a temporary nest box from a cardboard box just in case. What signs should I look for re the egg laying ? |
