Bluebelle or Daisy???

I thought I had seen a much bluer bluebelle but when I went today to buy one they assured me this is a Blue. I think its a daisy. Also she is meant to be POl, I think my little knowledge that she is still very young. Any opinions/comments welcome.

I can only say, she's as blue as Muppet, who is a Blue Orp, the other two are lloking darker and messier, I think they're heading towards moult. I don;t know what a Daisy looks like, sorry.
She doesn't look far off laying to me, a mere amateur Confused

my first blue belle was the same colour as the one you're showing. my second one that I have now is slightly darker, but she also has odd colouring round her neck ~ I picked her because of that. I also have a daisy belle and she is black with a white ruff.
I would agree with NannyP she is rather red so should be close to pol

I reckon that's a Bluebelle Very Happy

Bluebelles are grey, with darker necks (although sometimes golden necks).

Daisybelles are black (or v dark) with lighter necks.

POL is often used to describe an age (around 18 weeks) rather than a pullet that is about to lay eggs.

Readiness to lay is determined by lots of things, including age, the number of hours of light during the day, and stress levels.

Signs that they are coming into lay include a reddening and increase in size of their combs and wattles. And a bigger gap in their pin bones (around their bottom) from 2 fingers width, to nearer 3.

But basically, if they are healthy, you just have to wait Confused

I saw a chicken at another shop that was really blue almost mauve? any ideas what that would have been?

My Maran is really redding up, she should be almost ready she's almost 30 weeks. No stress here, they do what they like. Although I do need to stay home more as I don't think my neighbours are very friendly to them if they have to put them away before dark. ( Loud shouting and chasing and lots of noise apparently., with a gentle off to bed, and a wave of hands usually gets them in if I need, so not very happy to hear that).

Haven't checked bottom, is this necessary??

No its not necessary! Its just another clue.

Best sign to tell when they're ready though is an egg in the nest box!! Laughing

Gosh Lisa, don't you sleep?

I am putting a golf ball in the nest box today, plenty of clucking going on that I always remember happening around egg laying when we had chooks as a kid. I'll post a pic later today.

Might even bottom check!! Shocked Shocked
