|
|
| I have been keeping my 5 chickens since the end May this year, up until yesterday i believed they were all female. This morning i was awoken to one of them crowing! Any ideas if this is normal for a female or if a male has managed to sneak in unnoticed! How can i tell? |

Hi and welcome
How old are they, and what sort?
have you got any pictures we could see?
I have heard of hens that make a crowing noise, but you may well have a cockrel |

The roos will have finer, softer feathers around the neck and on the back side that drape and fall towards the ground. Their combs will be bigger as will their waddles. There legs tend to be a bit thicker with spur buds starting to develop.
A pic would be best for us to help you with...side shots of heads are the best shots to look at. |

they were pol when i got them at the end of may. 2 peking bantums, 1 rhodie, 1 amber sussex and a buff rock. The buff rock is the biggest and does have a tendancy to try and mount the bantums - maybe this isn't as innocent as i thought!
I cant use the photos on my pc to show you can i? |

| uumm that looks pretty suspicious doesn't it! would have to be my chicken that is the problem out of them all wouldn't it. Wanted a buff orp and they didn't have one when i got her - or him as the case may be now! does that mean that i will now get fertilized eggs, could it explain why they haven't laid in a while? |
