Well, I made said wine, it only made 4 bottles, and I gave 2 away before we left for France. The others were out of this world....I think I had cut down too much on liquid, so we ended up with a liquer It's all gone now, and I have been picking my cultivated blackberries for the last 2 weeks and have gathered nearly 3lb again.
Looking forward to the next batch.

| most fruits make lovely drinks/liqueurs but blackberries are one of the best both for flavour and colour..........and are easy to strain too |

Use Elderberries to make up the quantity Nanny - if such things are around you in France. Elderberries give a wine body and colour.
I can't remember your original recipe as I started reading it not realising it was an old rejuvenated thread and now I've started to answer and can't go back to the first page . I expect it was something like 6lbs fruit - 3lbs sugar & water to make up 1 gall + yeast (?).
I've given up winemaking now as I don't drink anymore but used to make a lot of Elderberry. If you add a lump of bruised root ginger it adds a certain something. Blackberries on their own can be a bit insipid so a few Elderberries are good even when you have enough.

Oh dear, made it a week or so ago no.
However, we're off for a walk in a day or two, so I'll pick elderberries then. I have some root ginger for my chutney making, so will make and elderberry and blackberry wine too. Wish I had another demi john!! |

No Freecycle, and they don't use Demijohns in France.
My visitors have 10 at home, will pick them up next time we're travelling in the car.
Thanks Itsy |
