Well.....I took my own advice & put a small battery light in the Chook house to try and tempt them in..(instead of staying outside cheeping & looking scared)..and it worked....I didnt have to throw them in tonight !
Im such an expert Poultry man ! |

Glad it worked Knobby.
I found a little battery powered one with a movement sensor that comes on for 2 minutes as they enter the coop, then switches off. Just long enough for them to perch. |

Well done that man!
I on the other hand tonight, had to chuck my chooks away slightly early, as I definately didn't want a repeat of last week!

just being boring and going back to what this post was all about (poultry)big shock I know...we used to have the same infuriating game with the quail at night trying to get them in, having to catch them one by one and pushing them in the house.
Not any more,I discovered if I put the big torch in the house when its gone dark they all flock into the house within a minute or two and I can shut them in after removing the torch of course.
They all seem to want to go into the light any way I don't care so long as I don't have to try and catch them in the pouring rain any more.

You're lucky you have access to electricity. Up on the allotment we don't
Glad your light worked for you though. I hope you didn't really throw those beautiful orpingtons into their house. (Admin might not be happy at Orpington abuse)

| By then he'd have had it, but it takes a while to hit the blood stream. |

when i have new hens that cannot find their way to bed, i will go out to them at dusk and catch them and just put them in, usely after 2 to 3 nights they get the idea, although my Houdans prefer to sleep ontop of the coop instead of in it...... so every night we have a litttle cuddle and back to bed they go. |

Yep, my Shetlands have this routine of sitting on top of the Ark until I lift them, sqwawking into it
Tonight, one RedRoo has discovered the main coop, heaven knows what will happen when Thunderbolt (Pekin Rooster) realises he has a rival in the coop with all the hens |
