Will look forward to seeing the baby's, and by the way, I have a Wellie and as I recall they're not great broodies, so it's probably just as well Laughing

mind you i did get another shock this morn my RIR Cock started crowing this morning. Smile

how long can i expect her to sit before venturing out with the chicks after hatching?

If there are still a few eggs under her (that didn't hatch) she will give it about a day to see if they will. Otherwise she waits till the last one pokes it's head out (normally) and then off they go! Wink

Put a little crumbs and water in with mum and chicks...she will teach/show them. It is really cute the way she clucks to them and sounds so excited about it. Wink

just enjoy watching her with the babies and talking to them ~ it is amazing, the different sounds she will make for them. My first broody was a welsummer ~ crazy bird she is, but she raised her three chicks well, apart from kicking them over a few times in the first few days and leaving them out of bed if she was tired and they couldn't find their way up to bed. Aside from that lovely mother. Hope it goes well
