I agree with Deb, a couple of days is all they need to get used to where they live and then you can coax them back into the run in the evening with some treats ~ corn etc and they should take themselves in to bed at dusk

Over 36 hours journey for me to Shetland with all our hens! A long grind from the far south to Aberdeen, then overnight on the ferry, then a couple more hours of road and ferry journey. Phew... They travelled in deluxe crates bought specially for the journey, with feeders and drinkers homemade from plastic bottles wired into the crates.

Everyone made it up safely; highlights of the journey were reaching Gretna Green at 6.30am, me going into the services for a greasy breakfast, and coming back out to the hired van to find a small crowd of children and parents gathered around my crowing van!; stopping in the Highlands to let the chickens out for a wander in the woods for an hour (under very close supervision!); and queueing for the ferry in Aberdeen when one of my Orpingtons started to sing the I've-laid-an-egg song - I went round to the back doors to retrieve it and add it to the others I'd collected during the day - to the delight of a small girl in the car behind. Needless to say, I gave her the egg (and some others) for the family's breakfast.

Any problems? No, apart from a dreadful headache from listening to the cockerels crowing in a confined and echoing space. Wink
