OK - a basic question!

We have six muscovy ducks that are three/four weeks old. They have a broody lamp on them at the moment. I am sure I have read that we should be turning the lamp off overnight, but leave it on during the day. OH says the lamp should be off during the day, but on at night because it's warmer during the day.

What do you think? Confused

same as the others ~ it makes no sense to turn it off when the day is at it's coolest.

Hi Leebarton
I think if it was me and my ducks were 3/4 weeks old I would have them off heat altogether. Try raising the lamp as high as possible, watch their reaction and if the seam comfortable leave it like that overnight then turn it out next morning and then leave it off. Nearly all of my chicks (except the very early ones) have been off heat at about 3 weeks this year, they always feather better and whenever I rear ducks I start to harden them off at 10 days.
Hope this is helpful
Stamina.

Thanks for the advice. The muscovys are three weeks old and have just been having heat at night. Ducky is now about 10 days old and growing really well.

Will Ducky ever be able to go in with the muscovys?
