Can anyone tell me whether chicken poo can be put straight on to the compost heap?

Yes it can, like all waste it needs to rot down to compost. You can include any wood shavings and newspaper too.

Yes, there shouldn't be a problem putting it on straight away, I do with mine,
pongs a bit of ammonia though  |

| We (OK the OH) put the poo and shavings from the coup on every week, along with various other composting type thingies from the garden and it seems to be going well. |
