Sadly - I think I got a bid giddy on Friday, with her clucking at her food and making an attempt to peck at it.
I am beginning to think she is dying. She has not stood up today, has not done any preening and has made no effort to eat at all. I have syringe fed her 20ml of scrambled egg and milk and 32ml water - and that's all she's had - and under sufference. I feel I'm going to drown her as I'm a bit concerned that it's not all going down the right hole.
I really don't know what to do for the best Sad
I'm Feeling thoroughly fed up about it, I just wish that there will be a 'change' one way or the other in the morning - as I can't bear this limbo Sad

Sorry folks - just wanted to share my fedupness with people who are more likely to understand!

Wishing everyone better luck with their poorly girls.

I think you've had the worst possible introduction to keeping chickens. Just to sound a practical note, if the worst comes to the worst and she doesn't recover, I wouldn't go back to the same place get look for new stock. Demand a refund and go somewhere more reputable. Let us know where you are in the country and what you're looking for and maybe someone can recommend someone.

Thanks all.
We have made the ultimate decision that she will be put out of her misery tomorrow unless there is a miracle overnight. I let her spend a day sat under a tree in the garden today - but she can no longer stand and just attracted blue bottles. She is obviously just waiting to die Sad

I won't be getting another one from them - and I will glady appreciate peoples advice on where to get some more from.

I am in East Yorkshire - and would like to replace her (lavender aracauna (sp) I would also like a couple of Marans, a couple of lavender pekins (I'm a sucker for that colour lol) and some more silkies.
Any recommendations would be much welcome.

Thanks

Well done Debs 2 for making that hard decision, she's been so lucky to have had the love and care she's had with you.
I hope you find the hens you want and that they are all healthy. I'm sure you'll get some ideas about where to buy the next ones from.
Good Luck tomorrow Confused Sad

I echo what NannyP says. It's always difficult to make the decision ~ but you have to consider how much she is going through ~ and the quality of her life. Good for you making what I would consider being the right decision. I had to do it myself when a fox mauled one of my girls. The vet said she could pump her full of a strong pain killer, but she personally advised against that and for giving her a dignified end. Dignified for her, not for me with the tears pouring out, but I believe it was for the best.
