Put a cross or something on the original ones and then remove the extra ones when you can

Well, I'm not sure who originally said that, and I'm not sure if it is true or not, but I'm guessing not.

There was mention in another post of a rotten egg exploding under a broody.

However, I wouldn't worry unduly, although I'd try not to disturb her too much.

Hope you get lots of chicks Very Happy

We use a pencil for marking eggs as was told ink can penetrate egg, not sure if it would harm, but as I said we use pencil!

I didn't candle mine ~ I just left the broody to it on the impression that they knew best what to do by instinct.

My name may not be George...but I have had a rotten egg explode under a broody! Shocked

I had to clean her up and the remaining eggs as best as I could. The hen smelled horrible for what seemed like forever.....none of the other eggs ever hatched after that. Not sure if that was because the fumes and gases from the bad egg penetrated the shells of the others or not.

Couldn't stand to be in the coop for long for weeks afterwards. That is a smell that just doesn't go away easily. Rolling Eyes Confused
