| Hi, we got our 3 birds yesterday from the Domestic Fowl Trust. The Black Rock (Roxy) has one sticky eye but is eating and drinking well. The delivery man said we could "swap" her if we continue to have problems. Is there an easy way to sort this out? We would rather keep her. The other 2 (Speckledy & White Star are fine). |

Hi Roxy...will do a proper welcome post in the general area.
Isolate her now, if you can. It could be a symptom of many different diseases. Chickens usually do not let you know they are ill until it is almost too late...so catching this one symptom right away will be a big help to you.
There are several threads in the Golden Nuggets area that will point you towards local vets, online vet manuals, certain diseases and certain medications. You may want to go take a look.
I would contact your local vet, see if they are 'poultry friendly' (if not, print out info from the Golden Nuggets area to take along with you to help them learn).
At this point it is your call. Invest money at the vet on her and keep her. Or return her and pick a healthier replacement. |

| Her eye is 'weepy' and semi-swollen. It is swollen underneath and she keeps shaking her head to get rid of the moisture. She is eating and drinking but I would say a little more lethargic than the other 2 |

| hello again Roxy, there was a thread on a different forum about a turkey that had swelling around and under its eye down to its nostril ~ I did a google and came up with some form of sinusitis, but it can be serious. I think I would be going for a different bird as this one just might not work out. I think you need to get to the vets and if its the mycro....can't remembner the rest of the name ~ I think it means its a carrier for life, but I'm not sure how that affects it. Hope it works out for you and her |
